Social media has been abuzz with reports of two men who allegedly raped a woman in Lekki and filmed the crime. Don-Chima George and Razaq Oluwaseun Oke have been accused of the horrific act.
According to reports, on February 2, 2019 the suspects took the victim to a club, where she was drugged with an unknown substance before being taken to Dallankester Hotel in Lekki Phase 1, said to be owned by Don-Chima’s father, where they took turns raping her.
They are said to have recorded the act with their phones, which were recovered by the police after the victim regained consciousness and reported the case to her brother who went ahead to get policemen from the Maroko Division involved.
The case was then transferred to the gender section of the command by the State Commissioner of Police, CSP Edgal Imohimifor, for investigation and prosecution of the suspects. However, there has been mass outrage about the case due to reports that the suspects have been released from police custody.
According to Twitter user @KingNelo2, not only did the suspects get released, the father of one of the suspects also ordered the arrest of the victim’s siblings and friend. The videos which stood as evidence of the abuse were allegedly deleted as well.

2) don chima’s father then got police to arrest the victims brother, sister and friend. As in right now HER BROTHER is in jail. I am FURIOUS

Update: Linda Ikeji took down the Ricco and Don Chima’s rape story off her website ( she posted it first btw) – so guess what money is going to do ? Get them out.
As long as the Nigerian system is thrashy, women would never get a fair chance.

However, in response to the outrage on social media, the Domestic & Sexual Violence Response Team of Lagos released a statement on Twitter debunking claims of the suspects’ release.
According to the DSVRT Lagos, the suspects were brought before the Magistrate Court 3, Ikeja on February 6, 2019 and the case has been adjourned to March 7, 2019 while the suspects are being remanded in Kirikiri prison.
Our attention has been drawn to the rumour that the perpetrators of rape of a 23 yr old lady have been released. This is to inform the general public that the suspects are still in custody. The DPP will ensure diligent prosecution of the case. @kingNelo2 @grooveeshakes @TheNamii

Spokeswoman for the police in Lagos, Dolapo Badmus also denied claims that the alleged rapists had been released.
“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command covering Lagos and Ogun State has been drawn to the news going round that two suspects Don-Chima Enyinnaya George and Olusegun Rasak arrested in connection with a case of rape at Lekki area of Lagos has been released,” she said in a statement.
“It was subsequently discovered that it’s a false allegation that is not only baseless but was purposely concocted by an unscrupulous element to smear the image of the police. The command hereby warn that mischief makers should desist from toying with sensitive issues especially that of this magnitude (RAPE) as it will not fold its hands to allow such occurrence,” the statement added.
Nigerians on social media are calling for the police to provide proof that the suspects are still in custody, as a friend of theirs earlier rejoiced that they’d been released. However, no evidence of such has been shared. We can only trust that the police will do the right thing and bring the suspects to book for their crimes.
Let’s stand together against rape, because no woman should have to go through such torment. No means no!
