Every once in a while, you have to take an objective look at your relationship to see if it’s really working or you’re simply ignoring some underlying problems.
This may require some self-reflection and observation of how you both interact and what kind of environment you’re creating. When you do this, you may notice some of these signs that the relationship isn’t working.
1. Your conversations are on the surface
Communication isn’t just about talking. When was the last time you and your partner had a real heart-to-heart? Do you share deep stuff with one another or are you just about keeping things light and upbeat. Having fun conversations is great. It means you can entertain and enjoy each other’s company. However, if all you talk about are the easy stuff, then you’re ignoring a major ingredient and that can lead to future problems.
2. It’s all for show
There’s nothing wrong with showing off bae on social media. But if the only times you put your arm around him or flash a loving smile is when the camera is on, then that relationship isn’t as good as you think.
3. He isn’t giving you what you want
It’s possible to be unhappy in a relationship with a guy that’s basically perfect. But we ignore that nagging feeling because we don’t understand why we aren’t falling for this dude who’s a walking rom-com. So if you are still dissatisfied despite his perfection, stop ignoring it. If he’s not loving you the way you want, you can say no.
4. You aren’t really building towards anything
The relationship isn’t working if you and your partner aren’t actually working towards anything. You may spend every day together, but when you’re not talking/planning towards a future, then you’re not really moving forward. A stagnant relationship starts to fizzle at some point.
5. You don’t have constructive conflicts
You basically yell at each other when you’re upset. Perhaps one person apologizes and the issue is presumably solved. Only for you to have the same fight a week later. If there’s a problem in the relationship, yelling about it isn’t how you solve it. If you’re not really talking about the issue and finding a lasting solution, you’ll only keep having the same fights over and over again. This isn’t how a successful relationship works.
While we’re on the topic, here are five relationship mistakes you should never make more than once.
