Jealousy in a relationship should never be something you ignore especially when it’s an issue that constantly crops up. If you find that monster rearing its ugly head too often, you should get rid of it once and for all.
Let go of the past
Sadly, past experiences and relationships can make us feel so insecure that we transfer some of these feelings to our current relationship. If this is the case, then it’s time to let go of the past. Not everyone is the same. And if you choose to be in this relationship, then the person deserves your trust and benefit of the doubt.
Find the source
Usually, jealousy in a relationship has a source. Has your partner done something to make you suspect his every move? Or are you simply transferring your own inadequacies onto him? Are there issues you guys have not completely sorted out? Find what exactly is causing you to doubt your partner’s fidelity and loyalty to you. If you cannot pinpoint something he has done, then look for areas in your life that are causing you to be doubtful.
Being in your own head too much can heighten feelings of insecurity and jealousy. To deal with this, you should talk to your partner about your feelings. Perhaps hearing him assure you of his love can help calm down your distrust and remind you of why you should trust him.
Accept your lack of control
People with control issues are usually more likely to be jealous in their relationship. This is because they find it difficult to deal with the fact that their partner is his own person. Hence, they need to accept that no human being can be controlled and going into a jealous rage over little things will not change this simple fact of life.
Sometimes, the only cure for dealing with constant jealousy is to stay away from relationships altogether and work on your self. Take a break and be single for a while. Work on building your self-esteem, forgiving the past and understanding that not all men will hurt you. This will keep your mind free of clutter and hopefully put you in a better place for your next relationship.
Jealousy in a relationship is not the only sign that either partner should take a break. Here are other ways to know you’re not ready for a serious relationship.
