Some topics are considered outright taboos. In fact, if you bring them up in public, you’ll probably have people gasping and clutching their metaphorical pearls in shock. And this is one of them. It’s nice to pretend that these aren’t issues women face daily but you’d be wrong.

There are certain scenarios where a woman might ask herself if having sex while pregnant with another man’s child is a bad idea. She may be pregnant by her ex and meet a new man before the baby comes. Or she may even be a surrogate for a couple. Heck, she may have had a one night stand without realizing she was pregnant at the time. Whatever her reasons, she wants to know if there are some disadvantages to doing this. And that’s why we’re here.

What science says

There’s nothing medically wrong with having sex with one man while pregnant with another man’s child. Your baby won’t suddenly disappear or be fathered by two people. The foetus will not grow an abnormally large head or have two penises. Basically, the only thing that happens when you have sex with another man is just that – you have sex with another man.

Some things to keep in mind, though

While there’s technically no danger to you or your baby in a situation like this, there are a few things to consider.

First, always use protection especially when the new guy is someone you don’t really trust or know. STDs can be extremely dangerous during pregnancy. It can lead to miscarriages or even stillbirths. This is no time to ditch the condoms.

Consider your emotions. Keep in mind that pregnancy is a very emotional time for women. If you’re in a situation where you’re pregnant by your ex and you just want to get things moving with a new guy, it will do you some good to hold on. Your hormones are all over the place and you should probably hold off on getting physical with your partner.

Plus, getting into a new relationship can be added stress you don’t need right now. You may want to give yourself time to prepare for motherhood before adding more things to your plate.
