This year’s American Music Awards welcomed A-list American celebrities in their numbers at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. American actress, Tracee Ellie Ross was the host with the most serving 12 spectacular looks made mostly by black designers.
The Black-ish star did make a statement in her looks preaching diversity and the need to support black designers. She opened the ceremony wearing a Gucci & Dapper Dan Harlem cape and sequin bodysuit by Nicholas Jebran and closed the show sporting an off-the-shoulder red jumpsuit by Cushnie.
What got us most intrigued was her show-stopping Ankara dress by a Cameroonian designer, Claude “Lavie” Kameni. The designer was also the brain behind Janet Jackson’s ‘Afrolicious’ look for her latest video and has become really sought after.
Claude Kameni was Insta-famous but was truly living his dreams designing A-list American celebrities. Thanks to Karla Welch who contacted him on his biggest gig yet and he nailed the look! He made the colourful Ankara print come to life in a form-fitting mermaid dress.
The flattering dress featured a plunging neckline, exaggerated tiered flared sleeves and flare details on the knees. Tracee did look spectacular in the custom outfit and we are proud she paid homage to her African roots in grand style! For beauty, she went all African choosing a natural-makeup and cornrow hairstyle while presenting. She only accessorized her look with stud earrings and stepped it up with heels.
