Wide-legged pants are certainly breezy and super comfy, but are they easy to wear?
We say yes, as long as you follow a few simple suggestions.
TUCK IN THAT SHIRT
This might sound like a no-brainer, but this Style 101 tip is the easiest way to enhance (or fake) an hourglass silhouette. Especially if your pants are black, the contrast of a lighter top will draw the eye to your narrowest part. You are welcome!
CONSIDER A BOXY CROP TOP
Note that we are not suggesting going full-on bralette here. However, when styling wide legged pants, we love the idea of a shorter, wider top that will hit right at the top of a pair of your wide legged pants. It does have to be high waisted though. You’ll feel trendy without showing too much off.
TRY A LONGER TOP (MAYBE)
Okay, we agree that this one might be a little harder for ladies with curvier hips, but for the middle-heavy and straighter-bodied chics out there, consider a longer top that hits mid-way down your thighs. Putting two flowy pieces together surprisingly works for styling wide legged pants.
We are huge fans of monochrome dressing. You don’t overthink it, it’s a simple way to look automatically well put together and it’s slimming as hell. And let’s be honest, although you’d probably be aggressively paranoid about stains, an all-white ensemble is basically the SI Unit for classy dressing. (But really when styling wide legged pants, any colour pulls this off, as long as the top and bottom match.)
SUIT IT UP
Your idea of wearing a suit might be 80’s inspired ‘coats‘ with ridiculously high shoulder pads. However, when styled the right way, a wide legged pants suit can look incredibly chic. The key is to keep your look modern with a tailored blazer, sleek pants and minimal accessories.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF PRINTS
This is a case of “Just Do It.” It’s pretty much the ideal weekend outfit and any fun pattern works. Just maybe tone it down a bit with a white tee. Wondering how to style your ankara pants? Check out Seyi Shay’s style tips.
DON’T HOLD YOURSELF TO FLOOR LENGTHS
Wide-leg pants don’t have to skim the floor. When styling wide legged pants, opt for an ankle-skimming pair, which goes perfectly with both flat shoes and heels.
A wide-leg jumpsuit is also a terrific alternative to a dress, since they basically look interchangeable. Oh, and they’re fun as hell (well, until you have to pee).
So ladies, stop shying away from wide-legged pants. Invest in a pair or two and follow the tips above for that comfortable chic finish.
