Janelle Monae sailing on her monochrome colour aesthetic boat catches our eye every time – check her out in full blown colour mode in new photos!
Janelle Monae did express her opinion in an interview with Time Out Magazine. Explaining her reason for embracing monochrome aesthetics; “I love the ’80s. I’ve been pulling from Bowie, Blondie — just when people didn’t care about their clothes. It was a vibe. Sure wasn’t about name brands; wasn’t about designers as well. Everything you had on was about how you wanted to express yourself. You didn’t let the trends speak over your art.” Not only was she inspired by ’80s fashion, she tapped greatly in their music.
Fast forward to now – her new album ‘Dirty Computer‘ addresses issues that the black community in America is presently going through. In the same vein, her aesthetic of choice is shifting towards the present as well. I mean how often do we see Janelle in colours?
Fully embracing the present, Janelle did tap deeply into everything. Tassels, colours, stripes, sequins and shimmer. Her beauty looks didn’t take a back seat as she infused colours with purple and yellow liners and a bold lip. Bold accessories made the cut as well.
As for us, we can’t decide which Janelle we love more. What aesthetic are you vibing with the most?
