When it comes to skincare, there are a few golden rules you cannot ignore. Never sleep with your makeup on! Stay away from popping pimples. And never, EVER, leave the house without sunscreen. Wait, do you even know how to apply sunscreen?
Obeying the rule is one thing, but obeying it the right way is a whole other story. You may be putting on sunscreen religiously, but if you don’t know how to apply sunscreen, you might as well fly towards the sun face first.
But not to worry, we always have you covered! We have a few rules to guide your skin away from UV rays and pollution and towards flawlessness!
Let’s get started!
1. Lay it on nice and thick
You should always pack on the sunscreen. Most experts recommend using a levelled tablespoon of SPF for your face and neck to get the best results. This gives you the best results out of your bottle of SPF. If it seems like a lot and you’re not into the whole greasy look, we have a tip. Apply some of it now, wait a few minutes for it to sink into the skin, and apply the rest.
2. Reapply every 90 minutes
Wait till you read this – sunscreen becomes ineffective after spending some time in the sun. The irony of it all! When you spend some time in the sun, your sunscreen stops working. So, if you’re going to be spending more time in the sun, carrying your SPF with you is best. However, if you’ll be indoors, simply apply in the mornings and you’re good to go!
3. Apply directly to your face
Applying sunscreen on your hands first is a waste of product – you’ll end up with more SPF on your hands than face. Instead, pump onto your face first and massage briefly with your hands. This way you get maximum protection at all times.
4. Give your sunscreen a head start
The average sunscreen requires at least 20 minutes to absorb into the skin. So, be sure to apply a thick layer in your face well before you step into the sun to make sure your skin is ready for anything!
5. Use zinc or titanium dioxide for something faster
Zinc Dioxide and Titanium Dioxide are both great for blocking the suns UV rays. So if you need something that works faster than the regular sunscreen those are sure ones, they work faster than the usual chemical ingredients found in your sunscreen.
